Torremolinos – Getting your bearings!
Torremolinos is spread out over 7 distinct districts, however there are 4 popular zones within easy walking distance of each other offering everything the gay visitor needs for a memorable holiday.
The centre of Torremolinos is alive 365 days of the year. Its streets, full of stores and restaurants, are perfect for discovering the way in which tradition and modernity combine in this town perched on the western shore of Malaga Bay Here you will find Plaza La Nogalera y Pueblo Blanco. Plaza de La Nogalera is the main gaybourhood in Torremolinos and is host to a large number of bar and restaurants.
The local train station is located in this plaza in central Torremolinos, only a few minutes’ journey from the airport, María Zambrano intercity train station, the centre of Malaga or Fuengirola, and other parts of the town.
Paseo Marítimo, offers the best route along the local beaches, with plenty of dining options. The Paseo Marítimo joins the city from Saltillo beach to los Álamos beach, in the most easterly point of Torremolinos. It is easy to reach from almost every part of town: to get there, just head towards the sea. It’s divided into two stretches by the natural projections of Punta de Torremolinos, popularly known as El Morro.
El Bajondillo is one of the busiest beaches in Torremolinos, found between Carihuela and Playamar beaches, and can be accessed from the centre through several streets and stairs –known as Paseo de la Playa.
El Bajondillo is a superb expanse of beach 40 metres wide and one kilometre long, is located practically in the centre of town and is therefore one of the most visited.
There are two lifts to get to the beach: a municipal lift which is open all year and goes from plaza del Panorama (calle de las Mercedes) to plaza de los Tajillos, and the hotel Meliá lift, which is normally only open in the summer.
El Bajondillo is where you will find the popular gay beaches,El Gato and Eden Beach.
Los Alamos is a big beach with a long promenade. Here you will find many of the hetro-beach clubs. But everywhere in Torremolinos is pretty gay-friendly and the seafront restaurants here offer great views for lunchtime dining.
